Baby, it’s whew

Giuliana
& Bill” is about to become a family show.

In a carefully choreographed announcement, Giuliana and Bill Rancic — who’ve extensively chronicled their efforts to conceive a baby on their Style Network reality show — yesterday revealed that they are expecting their first child late this summer.

“It’s our embryo and we’re using a gestational carrier to bring [the baby] to term,” Bill said on “Today” yesterday.

The couple made the decision to use a surrogate following Giuliana’s diagnosis with breast cancer last year. The cancer was discovered during a routine mammogram while she was undergoing fertility procedures.

“This was our last stop, this was it,” Bill said. “We had those two embryos that we had banked prior to learning about [Giuliana’s] breast cancer and with the medicine she’s going on, this was our last effort, so the prayers were answered.”

A few hours later, on “The View,” Bill said that due to Giuliana’s impending cancer treatments, she would have to “be on the bench for five years,” which meant that if the frozen embryos “didn’t take [in the carrier], we were out of the game.”

Of the two embryos that were implanted, one took. Getting the news “was pretty much one of the best moments of my life, if not the best moment of my life,” Giuliana said.

Naturally, the cameras were rolling when the couple got the good word from the doctor.

Already released clips from the episode of “Giuliana & Bill,” airing tonight at 8 p.m., show the Rancics stepping away from an event to call their fertility doctor, who is on the line with their so-far unidentified surrogate.

After hearing that the pregnancy test results were positive, Giuliana breaks down in tears of joy.

“Thank you, we’re so happy, thank you so much,” Giuliana practically whispers in the clip.

The relationship between the Rancics and the gestational carrier — who they were introduced to through their Colorado-based fertility clinic — will also be explored this season on the show, Giuliana told E! News.

Although they are not revealing the woman’s identity, they said that she does not live in California.

“We go visit her every month,” Giuliana said on “Today.” “We go to all the doctors appointments, so we see the baby growing and it’s very exciting.”

When asked if they know whether it’s a boy or a girl, Giuliana said, “We do, but we’re not telling anyone yet — we’re seeing how long we can keep it a secret.”
