Mets LF Bay injures ribs

Jason Bay took a dive on Gregor Blanco’s shot to left field in the fourth inning of yesterday’s doubleheader nightcap and might be facing an extended absence from the Mets lineup.

Bay left the game with bruised left ribs and expects to be revaluated today, after initial X-rays last night were negative. Bay, who initially remained in the game, said he may need an MRI exam today.

“Originally it just felt like I jarred my shoulder a little,” Bay said after the Mets were swept 6-1 and 7-2 by the Giants. “As a few innings went on I started to have a little [ribs] discomfort.”

Bay hit the ground with his face, but said he isn’t concerned with the possibility of a concussion. He missed the final two months of the 2010 season after hitting his head on the left-field fence at Dodger Stadium and sustaining a concussion.
