They don’t call it a “bedroom” community for nothing.
Ritzy Great Neck, LI, is crawling with more cheating spouses than any other town or neighborhood in the greater New York City metro area, according to a survey by a dating Web site that promotes infidelity.
“There seems to be a disproportionate amount of cheating spouses in affluent areas and neighborhoods in New York,” said Noel Biderman, the CEO of AshleyMadison.com, a dating site for people looking for extramarital sex, which crunched the numbers.
Rounding out the top five were:
* Park Slope, Brooklyn.
* The Upper East Side.
* Forest Hills, Queens.
* TriBeCa.
Stunningly, New City — a small, affluent suburb 35 miles north of Manhattan — placed sixth.
Biderman could not point to any specific factor as to why these neighborhoods and towns are ranked higher than others, but said infidelity occurs frequently across all demographics and races and suggested that people who live in or commute to New York are especially prone to cheat on their spouses because they may be more affluent.
“In the New York area in particular, with successful people there may be more cheating going on because the more opportunity you’re given — and that’s the reason you see athletes, celebrities and politicians involved in affairs — the more other people thrust themselves at you.”
He believes successful, Web-savvy business people frequently experience a similar kind of magnetism.
“For women, the more successful they are, the more likely they are to cheat,” Biderman said. “For men, we’ve found that infidelity usually comes into play when children come on to the scene.”
“Their personal sex lives dramatically change, and for many men, it’s their first foray into adultery,” he added.
“They spend so much time working for others, they now want something for themselves.”
The Toronto-based Web site currently has more than 13 million subscribers across the globe, 9 million of whom live in the United States. About 508,000 live in the greater New York metro area.
To calculate the rankings, Ashley Madison officials compared government census data to the area codes of their members and calculated a percentage. In the case of Great Neck, they found that at least 3.02 percent of the town’s adult residents are paid members of the dating site.
