Softball roundup: Rondon keys Spellman win over Good Counsel

Cardinal Spellman will be going into its matchup with rival Preston with some momentum.

Ace Tiffany Rondon turned in another stellar performance. She went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI and struck out four in the circle for the Pilots in an 8-4 win over Good Counsel in CHSAA Bronx/Westchester softball Monday. Christine Quinones scored a run and drove in two and her sister Victoria added an RBI triple.

Spellman (4-1) visits division leading Preston 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Panthers won the first meeting 7-3.

“She pitched out of a couple of situations with runners on with little or no damage and really pulled her team together to get this win,” Spellman coach Brendan McCarrick said of Rondon.

PSAL CLASS A

Francis Lewis 20, Jamaica 1: Alina Cerda was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored and Priscilla Lallave gave up no earned runs on one hit and struck out seven in five innings for Lewis (8-2 Queens A-I). Jamaica is 0-10.

Telecom 9, Grand Street Campus 5: Cristina Morales gave up three earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in seven innings for Telecom (8-1 Brooklyn A). Morales and Stephanie Aviles each had two hits. Grand Street Campus is 4-4.

Bryant 16, Grover Cleveland 0: Gabrielle Faustino went 1-for-2 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored and Courtney Serrano and Tiffany Zecena combined on a shutout for Bryant (7-1 Queens A-II). Cleveland is 1-7.

Stevenson 17, American Studies @ Lehman 6: Keyana Brown Wiggins went 5-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored and Lorenny Nunez Adams was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored for Stevenson (6-4 Bronx A). American Studies is 1-9.

CHSAA BROOKLYN/QUEENS A

St. Edmund 11, Bishop Ford 0: Angelica Fox was 3-for-4 and struck out seven for St. Edmund (8-0). Megan MacBride collected four hits and drove in three and Kellie O’Neill was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Bishop Kearney 16, Bishop Loughlin 1: Kristen Ferrigno drove in five runs and Allison Gasparino collected five hits for Bishop Kearney (5-1). Erin Cullen and Francesca Ingargiola both had two hits. Colleen Kallop went 2-for-2, scored a run and collected an RBI.

NON-LEAGUE

Holy Child 4, Horace Mann 2: Sara Land went 3-for-4 with with a run scored and four stolen bases and Mia Farinelli gave up two hits and struck out eight in seven innings for Horace Man All four Holy Child runs were unearned. Paige McMahon went 2-for-3 with two doubles and Cara Annunziata was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

PSAL CLASS B

John Adams 14, Springfield Gardens 4: Jessica Olivares and Yahodamati Singh each had two RBIs for Adams (9-0 Queens B-II). Springfield Gardens is 2-7.

Morris 22, Fannie Lou Hamer 5: Tiara Brown went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored and Yabelin Vanderpool was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored for Morris (8-1 Bronx B-II). Fannie Lou Hamer is 6-4.

Beach Channel 24, Far Rockaway 20: Keyleigh Hurley went 1-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored and Bridgette Nolan was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored for Beach Channel (5-3 Queens B-II). Far Rockaway is 3-6.
