Pol keeps tax returns a secret

Former city Comptroller Bill Thompson stood out from the field of mayoral candidates yesterday when he was the only major contender who refused to release his 2011 tax returns after a request from The Post.

A Thompson spokesman yesterday insisted he would turn over the records — but not until next year.

“Bill Thompson has always released his tax returns during any campaign year and will follow that practice next year as he campaigns to represent every New Yorker as mayor of this city,” campaign spokesman Thomas Butler said.

City Comptroller John Liu — under fire after the arrest of two top aides on campaign-finance fraud charges — and his wife, Jenny, a financial analyst, earned $304,079. Their total taxes were $87,865 and they gave $5,500 to charity.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who filed alone, earned $132,008. Her total taxes were $33,820. She donated $6,095 to charity, including clothing and household items.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and his wife, Elyse Buxbaum, who works at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, earned $222,865; their taxes amounted to $65,594. They gave $1,050 to charity.

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, a consultant, earned $247,534. Their taxes totaled $65,767 and they gave $2,218 to charity.
