PSAL softball rankings

It’s all about Tottenville in the PSAL.

The Pirates beat Susan Wagner, 7-2, on Tuesday and have now vanquished every possible challenge thus far this season. There is still another meeting with both Wagner and McKee/Staten Island Tech, but Tottenville has put the rest of the city on notice: an eighth title in nine years is a very good possibility.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Bryant moves up to No. 9, while Cardozo makes another return, now at No. 10.

Here’s how everyone else stacks up:

1. Tottenville (10-0) (Last week: 1)

After the obligatory rain out with Susan Wagner on Monday, Tottenville defeated its rival, 7-2, a day later. Jillian Regan crushed two home runs out of the Great Kills Little League field and Cheryl Lopez struck out 12 batters in seven innings. The Pirates are no doubt the team to beat.

Next: New Dorp (April 30, 4 p.m.)

2. Susan Wagner (9-1) (2)

The bad news for Wagner is that it struck out 12 times Tuesday against Tottenville ace Cheryl Lopez. The good news is the Falcons did get eight hits off her and didn’t look overmatched in a 7-2 loss. They need to beat McKee/Staten Island Tech on Monday to keep pace.

Next: No. 4 McKee/Staten Island Tech (April 30, 4 p.m. @ Great Kills LL)

3. Construction (9-1) (3)

There was no letdown after a disappointing loss to Tottenville. Construction defeated division rival Bryant, 11-7, on Tuesday and routed Lane, 16-1, on Thursday. Even without Alicia Gonzalez, who has left the team, the Red Hawks lineup can still hit the ball.

Next: Richmond Hill (April 30, 4 p.m. @ Smokey Oval Park)

4. McKee/S.I. Tech (8-2) (4)

MSIT has beaten all the teams it is supposed to beat on and off Staten Island. The Seagulls can make some serious waves Monday, though, if they knock off Susan Wagner. Not only would it help their playoff seeding, it would be a signature win to build confidence for a young team.

Next: No. 2 Susan Wagner (April 30, 4 p.m. @ Great Kills LL)

5. Francis Lewis (9-2) (5)

After a week against the cellar dwellers of the division, Lewis is back in an important game Tuesday against Cardozo. The Patriots beat their rival, 10-1, the first time, but the Judges were still reeling from the dismissal of coach Larry Alberts. It should be a close one this week.

Next: No. 10 Cardozo (May 1, 4:30 p.m.)

6. James Madison (7-2) (6)

The hard part is over for Madison and the Knights didn’t exactly ingratiate themselves. Yes, they only fell to Tottenville, 3-0, but that was followed by a disappointing loss to Francis Lewis in which they coughed up the lead. Madison has to come back and win the division title now.

Next: Midwood (April 30, 4 p.m.)

7. Bayside (9-1) (7)

The Commodores haven’t lost since their first game of the season, yet they’re having a hard time moving up because they have not beaten anyone of significance since Francis Lewis. That could change this week and next. Cardozo and Lewis are on the schedule in the next 10 days.

Next: Townsend Harris (April 30, 4:30 p.m. @ Kissena Corridor)

8. Telecom (10-1) (8)

With just two weeks to go in the regular season, Telecom stands in first place in Brooklyn A, which puts coach Glenn McCartney on the list of Coach of the Year contenders. Of course, the Yellow Jackets still have to play Madison next week. A win there would lock up the division.

Next: @ Fort Hamilton (April 30, 4 p.m.)

9. Bryant (7-2) (10)

The Owls further cemented their place among the better hitting teams in the PSAL by getting to Construction ace Britney Rodriguez in an 11-7 loss Tuesday. Bryant is going to be one of those teams no one wants to face in the playoffs. Forest Hills comes in Tuesday for a big game.

Next: Long Island City (April 30, 4 p.m.)

10. Cardozo (8-2) (NR)

The ship seemed to be righted by new coach Pete Douglas after a transition period following the ouster of Larry Alberts (inappropriate language). That went out the window in a 12-2 loss to Bryant. However, Cardozo can pick itself off the mat Tuesday when it travels to Francis Lewis.

Next: @ No. 5 Francis Lewis (May 1, 4:30 p.m.)

New: Cardozo (8-2)

Dropped out: Clinton (7-4)

On the bubble: Clinton (7-4), Forest Hills (6-2), Petrides (6-4), Stuyvesant (9-1), George Washington (7-3) and InTech (6-4)
