Christie open to veep pitch

PLAINSBORO, N.J. — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said yesterday that Mitt Romney is a “convincing guy” who might be able to persuade him to join the GOP ticket.

Christie was asked by a group of high-school students in Plainsboro Township whether he would consider being Romney’s running mate.

“Listen, what I’ve said before is I really have no interest in being vice president, but if Governor Romney called and asked me to sit down and talk to him about it, I’d listen because I think you owe the nominee of your party that level of respect — and who knows what he’s going to say?” Christie said.

“He might be able to convince me. He’s a convincing guy, but I really love this job. I really want to stay in this job.”

Christie is consistently mentioned as a top-tier candidate for the No. 2 job alongside the likes of Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.

“I like Governor Romney a lot . . . I was one of his earliest supporters and I hope that he gets elected president,” Christie told the students.
