WATCH: ‘Time’ mom defends attachment parenting

The blonde mom featured on the cover of Time magazine breast-feeding her 3-year-old son, defended her attachment parenting and said her family was better-prepared to deal with the media frenzy than others.

“We knew exactly what we were getting into,” the mom, Jamie Grumet, said on “Today” Friday morning. Grumet was breastfed herself until she was 6 years old.

Now, she practices attachment parenting, which basically involves spending her life constantly with her child, including sleeping in the same bed. But, she said it doesn’t take away from her own life or her relationship with her husband, calling arguments that you can’t be intimate with your husband if you’re sleeping with your child “myths.”

While Grumet says she didn’t think the cover would create quite as much of a stir as it has, she recognized why Time chose such a provocative photo.

Grumet was asked how long she would continue to breast-feed her son, Aaron, who’s almost 4, and she said she hoped this would be the last year.

“We’re going to do weaning,” she said. “He’s self-weaning right now.”

Grumet noted that the commitment involved in attachment parenting “isn’t for everybody.”

“You need to do what’s best for your baby and your own family,” she said.

The Post reported today that Time magazine is dealing with an ad slump and a dip in newsstand sales.
