D’Antoni likely won’t coach next season: source

Though the rumor is Mike D’Antoni has some interest in taking his speedball offense to Orlando if Stan Van Gundy is fired, a person close to the former Knicks coach said he is just as likely to spend next season at home in New York “for personal reasons’’ as his son finishes high school in Westchester.

D’Antoni, who was in West Virginia yesterday continuing his fundraising work for his alma mater, Marshall University, will be on Mike Krzyzewski’s Olympics coaching staff from early July to mid-August, reuniting him with Team USA member Carmelo Anthony. The logistics of inheriting a new NBA position while preparing for and coaching in the London Olympics may be unwise. D’Antoni’s son, Michael Jr., will be a senior guard next season.

If D’Antoni is wooed to the Magic, he may want to bring along 3-point sharpshooter Steve Novak and even try to entice restricted free agent point guard Jeremy Lin. Nevertheless, the Knicks can match any offer for Lin.

VOTE: KNICKS NEXT YEAR

* With interim coach Mike Woodson searching for a new agent after firing Larry Brown’s rep, Joe Glass, the best bet is Creative Artists Agency, which represents Anthony. Steve Kauffman, Donnie Walsh’s agent, also has been considered.

Owner James Dolan never demanded Woodson part with Glass, but let him know the troubled history between the team and the agent. Woodson felt negotiations, which are expected to start next week, would be smoother without Glass.

As The Post reported, Dolan never called coaching great Phil Jackson, though Jackson’s girlfriend, Lakers executive Jeanie Buss, said on Los Angeles radio yesterday, “He’s got his energy back.’’

* Jared Jeffries gave a gruesome description of the Amar’e Stoudemire fire-extinguisher episode after Game 2 of the playoffs in Miami. Jeffries and Josh Harrellson were right in front of Stoudemire when it occurred.

“By Josh’s expression, I turned around and looked and Amar’e’s hand was wide open with blood falling out of it,’’ Jeffries said. “I’ve been hunting all over the world, I’ve gone fishing all over the world, so blood doesn’t bother me that much. But just the amount of blood coming out on a human, especially on one of my teammates, seeing it almost made me feel sick because I knew it was very serious.

“We were in disbelief because anyone that saw it, we knew it was serious. It wasn’t one of those injuries where you cut it, a couple of stitches, or they put a towel on it and it’s OK.”
