This weeks couple: Opposites detract

This week, Ben, a 26-year-old entrepreneur, chose Mollie, a 24-year-old nanny. Truth be told, we were surprised by his choice, given their backgrounds — he’s a Jewish Manhattanite, she’s a Christian from Washington state. But hey, sometimes opposites attract! So, did their date go swimmingly at The Mermaid Inn? Or would this pair get lost at sea?

He said:

When I got to the restaurant, Mollie was already there and I was immediately impressed: She was better looking than her picture and had a great go-getter attitude. There was confusion at the restaurant, but she took charge, which was a big turn-on.

After the bumpy start, things went surprisingly well. Part of why I picked Mollie is because of our different upbringings, which is something I’m not used to: I’m a Jewish Manhattanite, and she’s from a small prairie town with a religious Christian family. But we clicked over our shared love of food and travel and ended up talking for three hours.

Unfortunately, I think our religious differences may keep us from maintaining a realistic long-term relationship. But I’d hang out with Mollie as friends in a heartbeat.

She said:

The first thing I noticed about Ben were his bright eyes and dark hair — both are beautiful. After some confusion about where we were supposed to meet, the night settled into great conversation over great food.

We both love to travel, which was something we quickly bonded over. However, while we love to see the world, our origins are quite different. Ultimately, we both lead very different lives, with different long-term goals and our relationship with religion might keep us from dating each other long-term. But I’d gladly hang out on a platonic, fun level!
