Dog-walker collared in UES jewel thefts

He walked their dogs — and walked off with their jewels.

A dog-owner’s worst friend was sentenced to three and a half years in prison today for taking $100,000 worth of diamond jewelry from two of his of Upper East Side dog-walking clients.

Felipe Domingues, 24, of Queens, had insisted at trial that he didn’t take the baubles for a walk, but had been convicted of burglary and grand larceny in January after the victims testified that he had the house keys and the opportunity to do the crime.

Defense lawyer Steven Brill said he will appeal the burglary conviction, which requires prosecutors to prove that Domingues remained unlawfully in his victim’s apartments with the intention of committing a crime.

“He was their dog walker, so he clearly had permission and authority to be in their homes to walk their dog,” the lawyer said.

Domingues had no criminal record and had received letters of support from other dog walking clients; Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Cassandra Mullen gave him the minimum sentence allowed by law. The jewelry has never been recovered.
