A Bag Of Hammers

A pair of emotionally stunted, two-bit con men (Jason Ritter and Jake Sandvig) are forced to grow up in a hurry when parenthood is thrust upon them in Brian Crano’s very slight debut of a comedy.

The kid is the 12-year-old son (Chandler Canterbury) of a single mom (Carrie Preston) who claims to be a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, and offers to settle her monthly rent with a threesome involving our heroes.

They decline the offer in a notably cringe-worthy scene, but eventually end up unofficially adopting her son when she splits — an act the sporadically funny “A Bag of Hammers” doesn’t take terribly seriously.

Rebecca Hall is wasted as Sandvig’s sister and the film’s voice of reason, who works as a waffle-shop waitress, and an even bigger star, Amanda Seyfried, is corralled for a cameo appearance.
