Go to Greg

I just got a new bike and I love it — and I want to ride it to work every day. But the facilities guy at my building told me I can’t bring it because there’s no place to keep it. What a jerk! Isn’t there a law that says my employer must provide bike storage?

Yes, there’s a law for all those bike riders — the ones who clog traffic because bike lanes have squeezed us cab riders into horn-honking congestion. You can’t even swing open the door and jump out like a normal New Yorker without risking catapulting one of you guys across the intersection. Not to mention the maniacal messengers. And don’t even get me started on those pedicabs!

The bicycle in buildings law went into effect in December of 2009, requiring commercial buildings with at least one freight elevator to provide tenants with a bicycle access plan upon request. Your employer is then responsible for providing storage space. Talk to your HR department and check out the Department of Transportation Web site (nyc.gov/dot) for a fact sheet. And FYI, Central Park and the path along the Hudson are beautiful biking locations on weekends . . . just sayin’.

Yo Greg, not everyone works in an office. How about some career advice for a limo driver who reads your column?

Yo, here’s a shout-out to all youse guys who got it made in the shade. You get to work in your mobile man-cave — what could you need from me? You can snooze on your down time in soft Corinthian leather . . . listen to tunes and the ball game . . . chin wag with your buds through your ear piece . . . eat, read, all in style.

But here’s some advice. Take cues from your passengers about how much they want to talk to you (and not you to them). And don’t drive like a cabby — drive like a yachtsman. But don’t dress like one, because that would be weird. Dress like you’re attending the event too — because maybe you will.
