Wright’s wrong turn at plate

After generating .400 buzz with a torrid stretch at the plate, David Wright hit miserably this weekend.

The Mets third baseman delivered his third straight 0-for-3 in yesterday’s 2-0 win over the Padres, dropping his average to .382, the lowest since it was at .376 on May 9.

“It’s hard to get a hit,” Wright said. “It’s very difficult.”

It was just the second time this year Wright has gone three straight games without a hit. After a drought from April 21-23, he racked up a 10-game hitting streak, batting .424 (14-for-33) during that stretch.

Wright scored the Mets’ first run after he walked and stole a base.

METS BOX SCORE

* Backup shortstop Ronny Cedeno, who left Saturday’s game early with a right leg cramp, did not play. Cedeno said he would test the leg today, and when asked about the disabled list, said, “I don’t make that decision.

“It feels better today,” Cedeno said.

With Cedeno out, Justin Turner played short for the Mets. Regular shortstop Ruben Tejada, on the DL since May 7 with a strained right quad, is not ready to play in a rehab game and today will merely field ground balls and hit without doing any baserunning.

“He still has some point tenderness in the thigh,” Terry Collins said.

* After yesterday’s win, R.A. Dickey — who threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings — pointed out his team’s relievers historically have fared well in his games. Tim Byrdak and Frank Francisco tossed a combined 1 2/3 scoreless innings changing the pace from Dickey’s knuckleball, lowering the ERA for Mets relievers in Dickey’s games this year to 3.20. The overall bullpen ERA is 5.05.

* Right-hander Chris Young (shoulder surgery), who has made three rehab starts for High-A St. Lucie, will pitch for Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday. … Josh Thole (concussion) is set to play today in an extended spring game. … With Collins turning 63, the Mets had a postgame cake for the manager in the clubhouse and sang “Happy Birthday.”
