Mets GM says offer to Wright may not come during season

David Wright’s agents can expect to hear from the Mets during this season. But general manager Sandy Alderson last night stopped short of saying the team will make an in-season contract offer to the All-Star third baseman.

Alderson felt compelled to address the issue following the Mets’ 6-3 victory over the Phillies at Citi Field because of a report that surfaced indicating the general manager expects to offer Wright a new contract before this season concludes.

“I don’t want to infer that we will make an offer [or] we won’t make an offer,” Alderson said. “We expect to talk to his agent this season.”

The Mets hold an option on Wright for 2013. He can become a free agent thereafter. Alderson said in-season discussions with Wright’s agents would not necessarily lead to an offer by the Mets.

“We can talk about a lot of things that would come up short of an offer,” Alderson said. “I’m not trying to suggest that we’re going to make one or not make one or what have you. I’ve said we’d like to have David here long-term. I stand by that statement, but I just want to make sure the record is clear.”

* Justin Turner wore a boot on his right foot yesterday and said he was diagnosed with a sprained right ankle and ligaments in his foot. Turner sustained the injury Monday when he jammed his foot at first base in a rundown. He was placed on the disabled list before last night’s game.

* Ruben Tejada (strained right quadriceps) was examined by team doctors in Manhattan and will remain with the team until Friday, when a determination will be made about his status.

* As The Post first reported, Manny Acosta was officially designated for assignment. Chris Schwinden will fill Acosta’s spot in the bullpen at least in the short term.

* Josh Thole, who is recovering from a concussion, could return by Friday, according to Alderson. Thole caught seven innings in an extended spring game yesterday and will DH for Triple-A Buffalo tonight.

Thole would then catch Chris Young’s scheduled rehab start tomorrow before rejoining the Mets on Friday if he doesn’t incur a setback.

* R.A. Dickey was named NL Player of the Week after going 2-0 with a 0.63 ERA with 21 strikeouts in victories over the Pirates and Padres.
