The title of this lame stoner comedy is an uninspired double-entendre, and I’m betting director John Stalberg Jr. also debated calling it “Bake Sale,” revolving as it does around the mass-dosing of the student body with pot brownies.
Henry Burke (Matt Bush) is senior-class valedictorian, a geeky striver with his heart set on MIT. A chance encounter with a childhood bud turned burnout, Travis Breaux (Sean Marquette), leads to Henry’s taking a just-this-once toke — right before schoolwide drug testing is announced. What to do? Hatch a scheme to ensure everyone tests positive, of course.
Familiar faces abound: Yeardley Smith, Curtis Armstrong and Colin Hanks gamely play doped-up school staff, while Michael Chiklis as principal channels Ed Rooney of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Adrien Brody’s underused as a twitchy prodigy turned pot guru.
I’ll say this for “High School,” though: It’s the absolutely perfect venue for the funny Jon Lajoie song “High as F – – k.”
