Move over SpongeBob. There’s a tubbier tabby in town!
Manhattan shelter cat SpongeBob had his moment in the spotlight yesterday, showing off a hefty 30 pounds of furry belly bulge in The Post.
But the North Shore Animal League on Long Island quickly beat the pants off SpongeBob’s fat-cat reign with its own gut-busting puss — Garfield (pictured).
The 10-year-old long-haired tabby, who was brought into the Port Washington no-kill shelter Thursday, weighs 40 pounds — 10 more than his portly rival.
“My first reaction was astonishment,” said North Shore veterinarian Gerard Laheney. “This is the fattest cat I have ever seen.”
Much to Laheney’s surprise, the morbidly obese cat, whose Brooklyn owner died, passed his checkup — but needs to lose about 20 pounds.
