Shuttle livin’ large on NY barge tour

The space shuttle Enterprise will be making its final voyage this week — but it won’t be by air.

This mission to boldly go where no shuttle has gone before will be by land and by sea.

The historic NASA orbiter departed yesterday from JFK Airport by barge (pictured) and will be tugged along the shores of Brooklyn and Queens today. It will dock in Port Elizabeth, NJ, and eventually land in Manhattan, at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, where it will go on display next month.

The Enterprise took its maiden flight in August 1977 as a NASA test vehicle and its last that October.
