315-pound Harlem man says Bloomberg should take big gulp of ‘mind your own business’

He’s certainly not sweet on Mayor Bloomberg.

At 315 pounds, six-footer Anthony Taylor says the mayor should take a big gulp of “mind your own business” when it comes to regulating sugar-laden drink sizes.

“People are going to buy two drinks instead of one, and it’s going to cost them more, too,” said the hefty Harlem resident. “It shouldn’t be up to Mayor Bloomberg to order us how much we should drink; he doesn’t have the right.”

Taylor, a road manager for rapper Biz Markie, says he enjoys every sip of his 280 calorie, 69-grams of sugar laden, 32-ounce “Sweet Tea” from McDonald’s.

“I think the mayor should butt out,” said Taylor, 42, as he downed his first $1.19 thirst-quencher of the day at 11 a.m. in a McDonald’s at the corner of Lexington Avenue and 125th Street.

“He can suggest we change our habits so we can start thinking about it and what we want to do. But you are not going to get rid of sugar, and making a drink size smaller won’t make a difference.”

Taylor said he sometimes chugs two Sweet Teas in a day — the sugar equivalent of about 3 1/2 colas — since you can stop in any McDonald’s for a free refill.

Taylor admitted obesity is a problem that he’s grappled with, and lays off the sweet stuff on occasion if his blood pressure is high.

“We should be responsible for ourselves — not him.”
