Even though it’s so 10 minutes ago for the tweens, teens and twentysomethings who made it a megahit, “Hunger Games” is sure to sweep the “2012 MTV Movie Awards” Sunday.
If you’re one of the 39 million Oscar viewers who says, “I don’t even know who that is” every time ABC marches out a twentysomething presenter, be warned: These people will be winning big on Sunday night. Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher doesn’t cut it here, but Kristen Stewart as Pippa Middleton would.
Far more important than the awards themselves is creating a show filled with raunchy, outrageous mayhem that gets YouTubed and becomes guilty-pleasure, repeat viewing.
To bolster the ratings, MTV has brought in “MTV Video Music Awards” executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic, who plans to add more music to the show.
Host Russell Brand will certainly bring his raunchy triple-threat music/comedy/acting skills to making fun of his recent string of failed movies and relationships.
In order to give this year’s nominations a little bit more heft, MTV installed a special, undisclosed committee to come up with the nominations instead of viewers.

It will start with presenter Michael Fassbender’s highly acclaimed appendage and end with the summer’s most anticipated moment, Tom Cruise’s exposed 49-year-old butt in “Rock of Ages.”
2 Better-rehearsed “spontaneous” escapades: Brüno aka Sacha Baron Cohen’s high-wire mooning of Eminem is still the gold standard. 2011’s Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis mutual groping was a “B” at best. Twilight’s Robert Pattinson gave away the joke and took too long to kiss the far too self-conscious Taylor Lautner.
3 More artsy nominees lose: Voters reject the blue-ribbon nominating committee’s choices. Mom and Dad are too busy “liking” Whole Foods and Trader Joes on Facebook to rock the vote for nominees like “The Help.”
4 Last-minute surprise appearances:
Brand’s “Rock of Ages” co-star Tom Cruise and former life co-star Katy Perry would be the ultimate walk-ons.
5 Huge red-carpet buzz for movies that won’t be eligible until next year like:
“The Avengers” and “Snow White and the Huntsman.” Crickets for “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.”
