Anthony says Knicks ‘can start building’ with Woodson

Carmelo Anthony said he was proud of what the Knicks accomplished this past season, but he’s not too keen on looking back. The pain of losing in the playoffs and all that. So he’d rather look ahead.

Anthony won’t play general manager and address the areas where the Knicks need to fortify themselves in the Miami stratosphere, but he is excited about the prospects of going into training camp with familiar faces who went through the playoff grind and are accustomed to coach Mike Woodson who will be running his first Knicks’ preseason.

“That’s big,” Anthony said Monday of having Woodson in place. “I think coming into camp if you can have a group of guys that’s known playing with each other, that’s been around guys, been around each other for a long period of time, you start building from there, you start getting used to each other.”

Anthony appeared at the Flatiron District for an event promoted by Jeep and Team USA. Fans were shooting free throws in drizzle and wind for a chance to win the grand prize – a trip to Las Vegas for a Team USA exhibition game. The London Olympics will take up a large portion of Anthony’s plate this summer. But he welcomes the event.

“I look forward to that just from the simple fact that it takes away time that I can sit home and keep reflecting on the past season. I don’t want to think about that. I’m trying to move on from that, trying to get better for next season. The Olympics, it will ease my pain a little bit,” Anthony said.

And while that will help the mind, some rest has already helped the body.

“After the season I took about two weeks off to let my body heal. But now I’m back in the gym, back in the lab. I’m getting ready,” Anthony said.
