Mary Kennedy abused RFK Jr., threatened suicide in front of kids: report

Before Mary Richardson Kennedy killed herself at the family’s estate in Bedford last month, there were numerous hints and threats that she’d commit suicide, a bombshell new report reveals.

Mary drank heavily, repeatedly abused RFK Jr. and his children from his first marriage, particularly Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy and threatened to kill herself, according to a 60-page affidavit filed by Robert during their divorce proceedings, The Daily Beast reported.

Mary repeatedly physically abused and screamed at Robert, according to the affidavit, which was sworn on September 16, 2011 and filed in Westchester County.

“Mary’s violence and physical abuse toward me began before we were married,” Robert said in the affidavit. “Soon after Mary became pregnant with our first son, Mary, in a sudden rage about my continued friendship with [my ex-wife] Emily, hit me in the face with her fist. She was a trained boxer and I got a shiner. Her engagement ring crushed my tear duct causing permanent damage … Mary asked me to lie to her family about the cause of my shiner.”

There were several other physical altercations between the couple during their marriage, the affidavit details, and she would often threaten to kill herself after they were separated. On May 26, 2011, Mary ran over and killed their dog in the driveway and told Robert she would end her life if he didn’t call off the divorce and recommit to their marriage.

Although Mary became close friends with Kerry Kennedy when they roomed together at the Putney School in Vermont, she initially wasn’t interested in Kerry’s brother, Robert. But in 1993, when he was still married to his first wife Emily, Mary and Robert began seeing each other.

Soon trouble began, as Mary would go into an altered state during the evenings, Robert said in the affidavit. “Her features would change with her jaw set forward, her face paled, her eyes notably darkened, her voice alternatively breathy or hard. Mary’s mood vacillated between rage and self-pity. Her behavior often became violent and destructive.”

She would beat him in the middle of the night, with Robert once jumping out of a second-story window to escape her punches, the affidavit reveals. Mary also attacked Robert in the bathtub with scissors one night, according to the family’s housekeeper, who also spoke to The Daily Beast.

Mary had also stolen things from Kick, Robert claimed, as part of a long campaign of cruelty and abuse towards Robert’s daughter, whom Mary once slapped.

By last June, Robert believed Mary might actually commit suicide and urged her family to stage an intervention.

“Mary is a wonderful, generous, kind, and wise person but depression and illness are now killing her. I know you have told me that her frequent suicide threats are not real. I do not believe this is accurate. I see her now sinking into a terrible darkness. She desperately needs a family intervention.”

In the weeks before she committed suicide, Mary had searched the Internet for instructions on how to make a noose and asked the housekeeper’s husband to buy a rope, which she said she needed for a sofa she was making, the report reveals.

After a session with her psychiatrist on May 10, she feared that he’d recommend that Robert be given full custody of their children, Mary began spending much of her time in bed.”

Mary was found last month after she hanged herself in the barn.
