George J. Marlin once again fails to provide any alternatives to solve Nassau County’s financial problems (“A Per-ilous Gambit,” Post-Opinion, June 11).
My solutions to the mess we inherited are real — from cutting 1,776 positions to eliminating $200 million in annual wasteful spending. To stop Nassau’s reliance on debt, I developed a plan to end the practice of borrowing against our children’s future.
All those involved in overseeing Nassau’s finances have a right to criticize my actions, but they also have a statutory obligation to advance solutions that protect taxpayers.
Sadly, that has not occurred.
I have sought state legislation to advance Nassau’s fiscal stability plan. Until the Nassau Interim Finance Authority and the critics provide solutions rather than colorful statements, I will continue to work with Albany, where stakeholders govern in a reasonable manner.
