Housing crash

Caution, house ahead.

A speeding SUV crashed into a Long Island home so hard yesterday that it knocked off a brick chimney on the other side of the house.

Nassau cops said Michael Loise, 23, lost control of a BMW early yesterday, jumped a curb and sped across two front lawns before plunging into the side of a house on Ocean Avenue in Malverne.

Loise was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

No one in the home was hurt.

Although the 6 a.m. crash collapsed a staircase and trapped the home’s residents upstairs, Loise was not charged or ticketed.

Cops suspect but can’t prove he was speeding, and said there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol.

“It sounded like it was an earthquake,” said homeowner Francisco Villegas, 41, who was in the two-story colonial with a cousin and his cousin’s teenage daughter.

“We were completely shocked to see the staircase wasn’t in the right place. We didn’t know how we were going to get out.”

Villegas said he heard two booms. The first was the SUV hitting the house next to its side door. The second was the home’s chimney tumbling.

Villegas and his guests were finally freed by firefighters, who raised a ladder to a second-floor bedroom.

Freeing Loise was a little more complicated.

His vehicle was halfway in the house, teetering over the stairwell. Rescuers had to nearly cut the white BMW in half to get him out.

When police arrived, the SUV’s emergency flashers were on and the airbag had been deployed

As unsettling as the incident was, Villegas’ home, which sits near Hempstead Avenue, wasn’t the first on his street to absorb an out-of-control vehicle.

The wide intersection has been the scene of several collisions in recent years.

“There have been a lot of accidents here,” said Malverne Police Chief John Aresta. “That house across the street has been hit three or four times.”

A woman at Loise’s Oceanside home said he was resting.

“I’m just thanking God he’s all right and no one was hurt,” the woman said.
