Alleged assault not by member of Sebastian Telfair’s family

Cavon Telfair, the Lincoln senior who allegedly assaulted school dean and football coach Shawn O’Connor on Wednesday morning, has no ties to the basketball-rich family bearing the same last name — despite a published report stating otherwise — The Post has learned.

Ethan Telfair, the Railsplitters’ standout point guard and younger brother of Phoenix Suns guard Sebastian Telfair, was shown the story by a classmate, which inaccurately characterized Cavon Telfair as Sebastian Telfair’s “kid brother,” and was stunned.

“I’ve gone to school with him for three years,” Ethan Telfair said. “Everyone at Lincoln knows he’s not related to me. I was upset. It made my family look bad. This always happens for some reason.

“People will look at us a little different, like we’re beating up teachers,” he added. “Who does that?”

A school official and older brother Sylvester Telfair also said Cavon Telfair is not related to the family.

Cavon Telfair was called into meet with O’Connor on Wednesday morning after he was seen throwing bottles at teachers the previous day, the school source said. He refused to write a statement of the events and as he attempted to leave the room, he swung a black umbrella at O’Connor, who led the Lincoln football team to a city championship in December at Yankee Stadium.

Cavon Telfair was apprehended immediately by school safety officers and was later arrested.

O’Connor wasn’t injured and declined comment.

Sebastian Telfair and his family have had their problems with the law.

A first-round pick of the Trail Blazers in 2004, Sebastian Telfair, 27, was arrested in 2007 for driving with a suspended license and had a handgun in the car. Ethan Telfair was arrested last year on gun charges and trying to bribe an officer, though the gun charges were dropped, Sylvester Telfair said. Sylvester Telfair, 31, was arrested and found guilty of gun charges 13 years ago, when he was 18, he said.

This current report won’t help the family shake its reputation.

“We just don’t feel like this is an accident,” said Sylvester Telfair, who feels his family is being targeted. “It’s not out of the blue. I’m just frustrated basically. It’s far from a coincidence.”
