Bronx boy, 4, killed by van while playing

A 4-year-old Bronx boy playing in front of his house was struck and killed by a minivan yesterday after he ran into the street, police and witnesses said.

Young Ebrahim Kebe darted into Topping Avenue at about 6 p.m. and was struck by the minivan traveling northbound on the one-way street, cops said.

He was pronounced dead at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. Cops said the driver remained at the scene, and would not likely be charged with any crime.

“I heard people screaming outside, and I came out. The boy was laying on the ground and I grabbed him and put him on my legs,” said Ebrahim’s aunt, Fante Soumare.

“When the ambulance came, I was holding the boy.”

Residents said that children on the street dart into traffic constantly, and that there had been several other near misses in recent weeks.

“He stopped right away,” neighbor Annette Hough, 49, said of the driver.

“He didn’t know he hit him at first until we all started screaming.”
