Red Sox pitcher Lackey files for divorce: report

BOSTON — Red Sox pitcher John Lackey has filed for divorce from his wife, Krista.

The report comes on the heels of the struggling right-hander lashing out at the media, claiming a Boston reporter text-messaged him before Sunday night’s start at Yankee Stadium about a “personal issue,” TMZ reported Monday

“Let me tell you the truth. Thirty minutes before the game, I got a text message on my cellphone from one of you … somebody in the media, talking about personal stuff,” Lackey said after the Red Sox beat the Yankees 7-4 in 14 innings. “And I shouldn’t even be standing up here having to deal with this. I’m sitting here listening to music. I don’t know who got my phone number, but that’s over the line.”

TMZ cited court documents filed Aug. 30 in Texas. In the filing, Lackey reportedly stated that “the marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities.”

Krista Lackey has been in treatment for breast cancer, undergoing a double mastectomy in March and chemotherapy in June.

Lackey has struggled on the mound this season, going 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA, by far the highest of his career. The 32-year-old signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the Red Sox in the winter of 2009.
