Beer & movie in ‘house’

Now you can drown your existential angst at the next Woody Allen flick with a six-pack.

One of the country’s largest chains, AMC Theaters, which operates 24 theaters in the state, and the Angelika Film Center on Houston Street are considering adding restaurants that serve alcohol.

A new state law allows moviegoers to bring booze to their seats at theaters that already have licensed sitdown eateries.

“We’re excited about the possibility of bringing AMC Dine-In Theatres to our guests in New York,” said spokesman Ryan Noonan.

State lawmakers say the law will help bolster struggling movie houses by drawing in mature adults who want dinner and a movie in the same place, not just the teenagers content with a Coke and an extra-large buttered popcorn.

“Adults aren’t enjoying going to the movies [which cater to] adolescents,” said Cathy Peake, a spokeswoman for Assemblyman Joe Lentol (D–Brooklyn), who sponsored the bill.

Williamsburg’s Nitehawk Cinemas and indieScreen, which already serve four-star meals to hungry cinephiles, hope to serve alcohol in their screening rooms this fall. “It really just provides a better overall movie-going experience for our customers,” said Nitehawk’s Matthew Viragh.
