Kim nups bad for biz

The worst thing Kim Kardashian could have done was get married. Sure, the most-famous-for-being-famous Kardashian sister probably made a couple mil just off selling the rights and product placements to her big do to Kris Humphries. But I’m betting the buck stops there.

Think Kate Middleton. Two seconds after last year’s most wanted “get” said, “I will,” the press retreated faster than her husband’s alarming hairline.

Enter unmarried sis, Pippa.

Before Kate got married, Pippa was Tito Jackson. Now, she’s Michael.

I’m thinking the same could happen to the Kim brand (which is one and the same with Kim the person).

She’s worth, according to estimates, something like $35 million on her own. Her husband is estimated to be worth about a third of that.

Kim’s chief reality rival, Paris Hilton, on the other hand, who remains single but never without a man, has earned millions more on her perfume alone.

Hilton has kept her brand alive by taking the Queen Elizabeth (the First!) approach: Engage but do not marry. There’s too much at stake.

The thing is, a wedding isn’t a marriage — and a marriage isn’t worth nearly as much, TV bucks-wise.

So what happens post-nup to the Kim media machine after this weekend? Is this the high-water mark for the K’s?

Does Kourtney get to be Michael now?
