Cop class in jeopardy

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said he may have to cancel his January Police Academy class after being ordered to cut his budget by $101 million this year.

“Right now, I would have to assume that everything is being held up, so I can’t say with any certainty about the January class,” Kelly told the City Council Public Safety Committee during a hearing on another subject yesterday.

He later told reporters he was concerned about holding up the class.

Mayor Bloomberg this week ordered every agency to reduce its budget by 2 percent this year and 6 percent next year. The specific cuts are due to the administration by Oct. 18.

The cuts would yield $2 billion in savings over the two fiscal years.
