At birthplace of a legend

Among those mourning the death of Steve Jobs yesterday were his 78-year-old stepmother, Marilyn Jobs, who still lives in the home with the famous garage where Jobs famously founded Apple in 1974.

“The number of visitors has been overwhelming,” she said outside her three-bedroom Los Altos, Calif., home.

A longtime neighbor, Gene Tankersley, recalled an early 1970s visit to the legendary garage where Jobs and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak were tinkering with their first personal computer.

“His father, Paul, had built a bench in the garage where they worked on the computer,” Tankersley said. “But it was always behind closed doors, until one day Steve said, ‘C’mon over and see what we’re doing back here.’ ”
