Job diss on union allies

It’s hippies versus hardhats.

Occupy Wall Street protesters, who have strong support from labor unions, have stabbed their allies in the back by siding with an environmental group’s campaign that could cost thousands of construction jobs.

The group is opposed to a Spectra Energy natural-gas pipeline that would connect the West Village to Linden, NJ — and yield an estimated 5,200 union jobs.

“It’s sort of a hypocritical message, if you will, to not seek an infrastructure project that will create union jobs and put people to work and then protest all day about people not being able to find work,” sais City Councilman Vincent Ignizio (R-SI).

A spokesman for the Laborers International Union of North America said the pipeline project would do exactly what the protesters claim they want — bring unionized jobs to the region.
