Girls volleyball roundup: Molloy, SFP meet again Friday in tiebreaker

Archbishop Molloy swept Christ the King to finish its regular season Thursday and will have to get right back on the court 24 hours later.

Molloy and St. Francis Prep will play a tiebreaker to decide the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Division I regular-season champion on Friday at Molloy at 5:15 p.m. The winner gets the top seed in the upcoming B/Q playoffs. Both teams will get a bye into Thursday’s semifinals.

On Tuesday, Molloy stunned St. Francis Prep in a five-set thriller, ending the Terriers’ six-year league match winning streak. Molloy has not won a Brooklyn/Queens regular-season title since 2005, which is also the last year SFP lost a league match. The Stanners did defeat the Terriers in the 2006 finals. Since then, St. Francis has won four straight championships.

Mareena Thottam had nine kills and three blocks, Katherine Kilkenny had seven kills and Anna Pastina had 16 assists for Molloy (9-1) in a 25-23, 25-11, 25-16 win Thursday over Christ the King (1-8).
