SIESTA KEY, Fla. — An eight-foot-tall Lego man was found washed up on a Florida beach Tuesday — prompting more questions than answers.
Jeff Hindman told the Herald-Tribune he spotted the figure in the pre-dawn light while walking on Siesta Key Beach, south of Sarasota, and dragged it ashore.
Emblazoned on the 100lb fiberglass character’s green shirt was the message “NO REAL THAN YOU ARE.”
Amid speculation about where the figure came from, the Herald-Tribune reported that similar Lego men were found on beaches in Holland in 2007 and England in 2008.
With the figure now in the custody of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, a spokeswoman for Legoland — which has opened a new amusement park near Orlando — said the Lego man was a counterfeit and was not endorsed by Legoland or its parent company, Merlin Entertainments Group.
If no one claims the Lego man within 90 days it will become a case of “finders, keepers” with Hindman saying he will put the unusual beach debris up for sale on eBay.
