FX renews ‘American Horror Story’ for second season

LOS ANGELES — Cable network FX announced Monday it had renewed “American Horror Story,” the horror series from “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy, for a second season.

The series, created by Murphy and his “Glee” co-creator Brad Falchuk, premiered on Oct. 5. It tells the story of a family that moves from Boston to Los Angeles in an attempt to make a new start after a miscarriage and an affair but finds its new home to be haunted.

“It’s one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience,” FX President John Landgraf said in a press release. “It’s something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up.”

“American Horror Story” has drawn strong ratings for FX, averaging 4.2 million viewers per episode.

The series stars Dylan McDermott of “The Practice,” “Friday Night Lights” star Connie Britton and Oscar-winning film actress Jessica Lange, in her first regular series TV role.

Murphy and Falchuk previously worked with FX on the drama series “Nip/Tuck.”
