Kim Kardashian’s divorce makes E! reality shows’ future uncertain

LOS ANGELES — Executives at E! were holding emergency meetings Monday to determine the future of the cable network’s reality shows about the Kardashian family, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kim Kardashian confirmed Monday that she was divorcing Kris Humphries, her husband of just 72 days, on the grounds of “irreconcilable differences.”

Ryan Seacrest, executive producer of E!’s several Kardashian-related shows — which include “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” “Khloe & Lamar” and “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” — was one of the first to break the news of the divorce.

“Kourtney and Kim Take New York” recently completed production on its upcoming second season, set to premiere Nov. 27 on E!. A source close to the production told The Hollywood Reporter it includes a scene in which Kim Kardashian and Humphries decide to “take a break” in their relationship — a revelation that news of the divorce makes outdated.

The network reportedly has no current plans to follow Kim Kardashian through the fallout of her divorce or to shoot any more episodes of “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” or “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami.”

An E! spokesperson also said the network will decide Monday whether or not to rerun its two part special on the Kardashian-Humphries wedding, scheduled to air Monday and Tuesday night.

The couple reportedly reaped millions of dollars when the special aired and drew in more than 10 million viewers.

In a statement Monday, the network said it was “surprised and saddened” by the news of the divorce.

“The Kardashians have always been uniquely open with all aspects of their lives, from joyous events to intimate moments to heartbreaking transitions,” the statement continued. “E! will continue to share the fascinating real lives and larger-than-life existence of this close-knit family.”
