Now Joe Namath is making it personal.
The former Jets quarterback fired another shot at coach Rex Ryan on his weekly Monday appearance on ESPN 1050 Radio. Namath was told that Ryan was spotted during the bye week wearing the Super Bowl III winner’s jersey.
“I’m just stunned that the jersey with No. 12 come in that size,” Namath said.
After the Week 3 loss to the Raiders, Namath was critical of Ryan’s management of the team, saying he was too easy on the players, which led to complacency on gamedays.
Ryan, who had a lap-band surgery in March 2010 to help him lose weight, laughed off Namath’s barbs.
“Shoot, hey it doesn’t matter,” Ryan said. “I’m still a huge Joe Namath fan.”
