WAYNE’S WORLD: Still thawing out after frigid win Saturday

Every other week during the football season, Erasmus Hall star senior quarterback/safety Wayne Morgan, the most highly touted football player in New York City, takes us into his life and times. In this exclusive NYPost.com diary, Morgan, ranked in the top 150 in the country by scouting services, details everything from practices and games to recruiting, as told to Marc Raimondi.

Our game against Grand Street Campus on Saturday was crazy. That was the coldest I’ve ever been – I was freezing, I was shaking.

I thought it was just going to rain. All of a sudden there was snow coming down. In the beginning I was trying to have fun in it, but after awhile it was getting too cold. I couldn’t feel my hands. I couldn’t feel my feet. It was crazy.

I couldn’t feel the ball at all. I couldn’t grip it – nothing. I wouldn’t call it luck, but we knew one way or another we had to come out with a win and we did, 12-6. In weather like that, anything can happen so it was a good win for us. When we went into the locker room, we were all just shivering. I said, ‘We can be cold when we win, but if we lose it’ll be even colder.’

After the game, I took a hot shower for like an hour and just laid down the rest of the night. I couldn’t feel my feet until the next morning. I don’t know how I wasn’t sick. I was shivering for a long time after the game.

We have Midwood coming up this week and I know they only have one win. But we just gotta play hard. We can’t sleep on them or anyone. We gotta bring it. They made us their Homecoming. They’re not trying to get embarrassed on Homecoming.

I can’t believe it’s the last week of the regular season. It’s crazy that my high school career is coming to an end. But I’m real excited for the postseason.

When I look back on this season, I’m disappointed. We could be undefeated right now. The games we lost, we lost to ourselves. We beat ourselves. And Clinton (a 30-8 loss), that day, they wanted it more. That’s not going to happen anymore.

Against Fort Hamilton (a 32-14 win two weeks ago), that was a statement game. Now we’re sure we can beat anybody. When we focus, we can beat anybody. For me, it was a big-time game (he had four touchdowns). I made big-time plays. It was memorable. That’s one of the games the team really needed me to step up in, and I did.

I didn’t celebrate Halloween at all this weekend or Monday. I didn’t get dressed up or anything. I’m just focused on football and school right now.

The playoffs are coming up. Let’s go.

Check back with Wayne Morgan every other Wednesday during the season. His next diary will run Nov. 9.
