PSAL Class B boys soccer playoff roundup: Hunter blanks Telecom, advances to second round

Defending champion Hunter College High School began its title defense in dominant fashion.

Jakub Glowala notched two goals and an assist, Adam Eckstein, Ben Metrikin, Alex Markowitz and Jesse Kaminsky also scored, Patrick Yang added two assists and keeper Leroy Knight and Drew Adler combined for seven saves and the clean sheet for Hunter College. The Hawks (11-1), the Manhattan B North division winners, advance to host the No. 9 Taft/No. 24 Math, Science & Engineering winner on Thursday at 3:30 in the second round. Telecom completes its season at 6-6-1.

No. 10 Campus Magnet 5, No. 23 Environmental Studies 0: Darrian Chambers had two goals and an assist, Julian O’Meally also scored twice and added a helper, Robert Morand followed with a goal and Berne Isaa Saint Pierre chipped in an assist for Campus Magnet. The Bulldogs (10-2-1) take on seventh-seeded Springfield Gardens in the second round Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Environmental Studies is 7-5-0.

No. 16 Hillcrest 5, No. 17 Grand Street Campus 1: The Hawks, who improved to 9-3-1, take on No. 1 John F. Kennedy in the second round Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Grand Street Campus completes its season at 8-4-1.

No 21 Robert F. Wagner Jr. 2, No. 12 Riverdale/Kingsbridge 0: Kalief Lindo and Joel Roman each scored once, Mauricio Roman and Pierluigi Zambrano had assists and keepers Luis Caguana, John Saguay and Camilo Ibanez combined to make four saves for Robert F. Wagner (10-5-0), which will meet No. 5 Queens Vocational Tech in the second round Thursday at 3:30 p.m. RKA wraps up its season at 10-5-0.

No. 22 Newtown, No. 11 Goldstein: The Pioneers (9-5-1), who moved down to Class B this fall after several years in the ‘A’, picked up the biggest upset of the day in ‘B,’ and will face No. 6 Washington Irving in the second round Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Goldstein is 10-3-0.
