PSAL Class B boys soccer playoff roundup: FDA tops Lafayette in overtime

Davon Arauz scored twice and Papa Tall followed with a goal as third-seeded Frederick Douglass Academy topped No. 19 Lafayette, 3-2 in overtime, in the second round of the PSAL Class B playoffs.

The Lions (12-1-1), the Manhattan B-III champions, will meet No. 6 Washington Irving in the quarterfinals Monday at 2:30 p.m. Jason Cantor and Daniel Abrahamov each scored once and Donte Hurley had two assists for Lafayette (9-5-0).

No. 1 John F. Kennedy 5, No. 16 Hillcrest 2: Edwin Munoz had two goals and an assist, Stephen Owusu, Reindorf Kyei and Kafoumba Doumbia also scored and Bazoumana Coulibaly chipped in two helpers for Kennedy (14-1-0), which meets the winner of No. 8 Hunter College HS/No. 9 Taft in the quarterfinals Monday at 2:30 p.m. Hillcrest finishes up at 9-4-1.

No. 4 New Utrecht 4, No. 13 George Westinghouse 1: The Utes (12-0-1) advance to face No. 5 Queens Vocational Tech in the quarterfinals Monday at 2:30 p.m. George Westinghouse is now 10-4-0.

No. 5 Queens Vocational Tech 2, No. 22 Robert F. Wagner Jr. 1: Mark Puma scored twice and goalkeeper Gerardo Amigon made four saves for Queens Vocational (12-2-1), which faces No. 4 New Utrecht in the quarterfinals Monday at 2:30 p.m. Robert F. Wagner Jr. is 10-6-0.

No. 6 Washington Irving 1, No. 22 Newtown 0: Itamar Alv Pereira scored once and keeper Kenneth Caballero made seven saves for the clean sheet for Washington Irving. The Bulldogs (13-1-0) take on No. 3 FDA in the quarterfinals Monday at 2:30 p.m. Newtown completes its season at 9-6-1.

No. 7 Springfield Gardens 1, No. 10 Campus Magnet 0: Olando Johnson tallied the match’s only goal and keepers Justin Buchanan and Ojayai Wilson combined to make four saves for Springfield Gardens (12-2-0), which faces No. 2 Millennium in the quarterfinals Monday at 2:30 p.m. Campus Magnet’s season is complete with a record of 10-3-1.
