Mama’s boys on the rise

Forget about “Go west, young man” — today the battle cry for the younger generation is “Move back in with Mama!”

A new study by the Census Bureau shows nearly 1 in 5 adult males in their late 20s and early 30s are living with Mom and Dad.

In just the past six years, the number of men living with their parents has risen from 14 to 19 percent, according to the newly released census data.

This epidemic of mama’s boys has struck both New York City and the country as a whole, as the terrible economy and massive unemployment have forced grown men back into their childhood bedrooms.

Max Green recently returned from the West Coast to live with his mom and dad near Gramercy Park.

“I moved back in with my parents in August,” said the 32-year-old former casino manager. “I was dissatisfied with my job, was thinking of going back to school, and wanted to be close to my family.”

The census study, called “America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2011,” found that only half as many women between ages 24 and 34 are living at home — rising slightly from 8 percent in 2005 to 10 percent today.

“Women tend to marry earlier than men,” said report author Rose Kreider.
