Girls volleyball roundup: Fieldston flies past Mann, into NYSAISAA semis

Fieldston is one step closer to its first NYSAISAA final in seven years.

Arianna Francis had 14 kills, Natasha Trepel had 11 kills and Lauren Weston had 37 assists to lead No. 2 Fieldston to a 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 win over visiting rival Horace Mann, seeded seventh, in the NYSAISAA girls volleyball quarterfinals Thursday. The Eagles will meet No. 3 Chapin, which beat No. 6 Spence, in the semifinals Friday back in Riverdale at 5 p.m.

Catalina Jimenez had six kills, Lisa Slivken had four kills and Olivia Rubin added eight aces for Fieldston (11-0), the Ivy League champion.

If the Eagles are to win their first NYSAISAA title since 2003, they will have to do it without Sarah Graham. The libero, who injured her foot in September, has been cleared by doctors, but coach Collin Henry said she’s not yet at 100 percent. Rowin Paul, a JV callup, has done a fine job replacing her.

Brearley 3, Columbia Prep 0: Mary Claire Bartlett had 14 kills and four aces and Funmi Adejobi had 27 assists to lead Brearley (12-0) to a 25-13 , 25-19, 25-11 win in the NYSAISAA quarterfinals. Catherine Egan had nine kills, three aces and three blocks. The Beavers host No. 4 Trinity, which beat No. 5 Poly Prep, in the semifinals 5 p.m. Friday at Brearley Field House.

PSAL CLASS A

Cardozo 2, Bayside 0: Ashley Grubler had eight kills, Amy Sung had five aces and six digs and Jessica Lou had 15 assists to lead Cardozo (10-0) in a 25-11, 25-10 win in Queens A6. Bayside is 5-5.

Cleveland 2, Newcomers 0: Kimberly Vazquez had seven kills, Eni Sejdini had nine assists and Carolina Alfonso Reyes had five aces to lead Cleveland (10-0) to a 25-12, 26-16 win in Queens A7. Newcomers is 1-9.

Midwood 2, New Utrecht 0: Alexandra Gordon had six kills and Veronica Ceselka had five kills and five aces to lead Midwood (9-1) to a 25-10, 25-21 win in Brooklyn A3. Elizabet Genis had 11 assists and eight digs. New Utrecht is 9-1.

PSAL CLASS B

Riverdale/Kingsbridge 2, Evander Childs 0: Thalia Fernandez had 11 aces and Giulia Feigenbaum had nine aces to lead RKA (10-0) to a 25-8, 25-6 win in Bronx B1. Evander is 0-10.

Bushwick 2, EBC/Bushwick Leaders 1: Iris Miranda had six kills, five aces and nine digs and Elbania Ventura had eight aces and six digs to lead Bushwick (9-1) to a 25-14, 21-25, 27-25 win. EBC/Bushwick is 7-3.
