47 city schools on hit list

The city Department of Education is eyeing 47 schools for potential closure — including six struggling charter schools and 17 high schools.

The list includes two high schools where graduation rates are within 4 percentage points of the citywide average of 65 percent — Wadleigh Secondary School in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, and the International Arts Business School in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

Also under threat are two high schools that were assigned highly paid expert principals with much fanfare several years ago — Lehman HS in The Bronx and Washington Irving HS near Union Square in Manhattan.
