Map to US nuke stash

Here’s one neighbor you don’t want to set off!

A startling new map pinpoints the locations of America’s nuclear stockpile, showing the sites of warheads, weapons labs and power plants — and they’re scattered throughout the nation.

The map, assembled by Mother Jones magazine, reveals that there are 5,113 atom bombs in the United States and on submarines — even though the Obama administration has said it will scale back its nuclear-weapons program.

The map was drawn up using advice from nuclear watchdog groups and Defense Department data.

The magazine reported that President Obama said in 2009 that the US should ultimately disarm — but noted that the country spends more on nuclear weapons now than it did during the Cold War.

It also reported that there are an unknown number of “zombie,” or reserve, nukes and over 3,000 warheads scheduled to be dismantled.

There are no warheads in New York, but there are four power plants.

Sources for the map include the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Federation of American Scientists, the Office of the Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters, and the Nuclear Energy Institute. With Post Wire Services
