Standing by her Herman

WASHINGTON — Embattled GOP presidential contender Herman Cain’s wife last night spoke out for the first time about the sexual-harassment allegations against her husband, saying he would never do the things he’s accused of.

“You hear the graphic allegations, and we know that would have been something that’s totally disrespectful of her as a woman. And I know the type of person he is. He totally respects women,” Gloria Cain told Fox News Channel’s “On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren.”

She said she couldn’t imagine her husband of 43 years doing what accusers claim he did while president of the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s.

The accusations include making sexually charged comments and gestures to at least three women and making sexual advances toward one woman while parked in his car outside the association’s DC headquarters.

“I’m thinking he would have to have a split personality to do the things that were said,” said Gloria Cain, who previously has stayed off the campaign trail.

Herman Cain has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing and vowed to press on with his presidential candidacy.

Married in 1968, the Cains have two adult children, Melanie and Vincent, as well as grandkids.
