Mom who tossed baby in frigid Hudson to take insanity plea

The mother who threw her 19-month-old daughter in the Hudson last year — to take revenge on her husband — may plead not guilty by reason of insanity on her next court date under a no-jail deal agreed to by Manhattan prosecutors.

Under the deal, Devi Silvia would be committed to a state psychiatric center for at least six months, after which she’ll be re-evaluated for possible release, officials said.

Silvia had tossed the tot into the frigid May waters off Pier 1 at West 70th Street last year, then jumped in the river herself in a narrowly-unsuccessful murder-suicide attempt. Silvia had explained at the time that she sought revenge on her husband for moving the family from India and hopscotching them around the country through his technologies job with Oracle.

The tot survived, and both of the couple’s children are back in India while the still-married Sylvia and her husband remain in New York. Still free on $100,000 bail, she is due back in court Dec. 2.
