The Kyra Sedgwick farewell tour

Most people give two weeks notice when they leave a job. Stars take longer. Actors and television hosts quit months and sometimes years in advance of their actual exits. Oprah. Regis, and now, Kyra Sedgwick. She decided to shut down “The Closer” earlier this year, but TNT is dragging out the last season till next summer. That’s right. So loyal fans will get a few weeks of Brenda solving cases, prom hair undisturbed, then she’ll be gone for a while. The suspense is killing us. Upcoming guest stars include Fred Willard (Dec. 5), Frances Sternhagen and Barry Corbin (Dec. 12), Mark Moses and Elizabeth Perkins (Dec. 19).

THE CLOSER

Monday, 9 p.m., TNT

Silly car tricks

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, hosts of the BBC’s “Top Gear,” have performed some of the most outrageous auto-escapades known to man. Viewers were asked to vote on their 40 favorite adventures and producer Andy Wilman counts them down over eight weeks of one hour, back-to-back broadcasts. Will the Reliant Robin turned space shuttle come out on top? How did the challenges featuring the famed Bugatti Veyron fare? Or the Renault Twingo road test? The challenges that received the highest number of votes will be announced during a special 90-minute finale, which premieres on Monday, Dec. 26.

TOP GEAR: TOP 40

Angie Harmon shills for Bill O’Reilly

The gal-pal sleuthing team (Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander) investigates the shooting of a community activist. Before long, a witness emerges to testify against a notorious gang leader. Enter Bill O’Reilly (below right), who voices his disapproval of the police department. Then O’Reilly, who just happens to have a book out, does a book signing, which gives Lorraine Bracco (below, center, with Alexander) a chance to show up and do her I-used-to-be-on-“The Sopranos” thing.

RIZZOLI & iSLES

Monday, 10 p.m., TNT

Tree trimming bonanza

You never get tired of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. They put it up, they put the lights on and the glowing spectacle puts even the most diehard sourpuss in a better mood. Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie host the proceedings this year (the 79th tree lighting). Recording artists plugging their Christmas albums, like Carole King from Canarsie, will be on hand. She will be joined by Tony Bennett, who never stays home anymore, Justin Bieber, Michael Buble, Cee Lo Green, Faith Hill, Katharine McPhee, “The Voice” winner Javier Colon and the Radio City Rockettes. Even if you don’t catch the special, you can bring the kids to the city.

CHRISTMAS IN ROCKEFELLER CENTER 2011

Wednesday, 8 p.m., NBC

A hole in the ground

As Sheriff Graham deputizes Emma (Jennifer Morrison), the ground shakes and a giant sinkhole mysteriously appears at the edge of town. Young Henry (Jared Gilmore, center) decides to explore the innards of the sinkhole to see if it can connect the inhabitants of Storybrooke to the fairy tale world, but this may not be the brightest idea he’s ever had. Meanwhile, back in the fairytale world, Jiminy Cricket (Raphael Sbarge) yearns to leave the family business and transform into the person he wants to be.

ONCE UPON A TIME

Tonight, 8 p.m., ABC

‘Faith’ healers

Rev. Henry Covington (Laurence Fishburne, left with Bradley Whitford) was a Detroit preacher who overcame, along with his wife Annette (Anika Noni Rose), a life mired in drugs and crime. Mitch Albom (Whitford) met the reverend when Albom wrote newspaper columns about homeless people and homeless shelters, such as Covington’s I Am My Brother’s Keeper Church. In the film Albom reflects upon his experiences with Covington as wellas with Rabbi Albert Lewis (Martin Landau), a feisty, funny leader who asks Albom to write his eulogy. But this movie doesn’t seem to have a plot.
