Lame-duck Bloomberg plots his exit strategy

It looks like Mayor Bloomberg’s already heading for the exits.

With more than two years to go on his third term, Bloomberg is beginning to wind down his administration by assigning staffers at city agencies to begin compiling lists of accomplishments, The Post has learned.

Hizzoner has also tasked those staffers with collecting official “business records” like contracts, strategy memos and communications plans that will form the official account of Bloomberg’s years.

“They’re spending a lot of time putting this together,” one ranking administration official told The Post. There’s no rule for when mayors are supposed to start preparing for the end of their terms. But more than two years from his December 2013 departure is viewed by Bloomberg’s own top officials as being early — especially considering some of his predecessors did nearly nothing besides leave the building when their time was up.

City Hall spokesman Marc LaVorgna insisted the Bloomberg administration is not rushing things, just planning ahead.

“We’ve learned from previous administrations the importance of organizing records and how much time it takes,” LaVorgna said.
