Throat surgery a success for Yankees’ Rivera: source

According to a person with knowledge of the situation, Mariano Rivera came through this morning’s vocal cord surgery in good shape.

The Yankees closer had polyps removed from the vocal cords at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. It’s not known if the polyps were sent for a biopsy, but that is a likely step.

Prior to the surgery, Rivera was told the problem didn’t appear to be serious because of the location and texture of the polyps.

Rivera will have to avoid talking for a week.
