CHSAA/Private boys basketball roundup: Marquardt leads Poly to upset of LaSalle

Charlie Marquardt made Poly Prep forget about all it lost from last year’s team.

The senior scored a career-high 35 points, leading the Blue Devils to an impressive 83-76 overtime victory over CHSAA Class A power LaSalle in Bay Ridge on Friday afternoon.

“He can really play,” Poly Prep coach Bill McNally said. “It was a good start for Charlie. He’s really gotten himself into another gear.”

Anthony Reyes added 18 points, Miles Stephenson had 16 and Ladi Okalique had 10. Shammgod Wells paced LaSalle (0-1) with 22 points.

“The place was electric, it was packed, standing-room only. It was a nice, exciting way to start the season off,” McNally said. “We were up and they came back a couple of times. We really played well in overtime. It was good for us.”

CHSAA CLASS AA

St. Raymond 75, All Hallows 52: Daniel Dingle had 23 points and six rebounds and Larry Graves had 18 points to lead St. Ray’s (1-0, 1-0 ‘AA’). Kayvon Williams had 16 points, Myron Hickman had nine points and the Ravens defense held All Hallows (0-1) to 35 percent shooting.

NON-LEAGUE

Archbishop Molloy 67, St. Anthony’s 55: Morrell Gaskins had 22 points and 20 rebounds and Marko Kozul had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Molloy (2-0). C.J. Davis added 13 points and eight rebounds.

St. Peter’s 69, Port Richmond 32: Patrick Fennell had 14 points and Andrew Cannon had 13 points for St. Peter’s (1-1). Mike Goffredo had 15 points for Port Richmond (0-2).

Iona Prep 73, Salesian 47:Kevin Conroy had 20 points, Rich Crews had 12 points and Isiah Ice added 10 points for Iona (1-0). Terry McCallister had 15 points and Joe Miressi added 14 points for Salesian (0-1).

Monsignor Farrell 65, Tottenville 42: Jason Murphy had 16 points and Connor Nicholson had 14 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Farrell (1-2). Michael Michail had 10 points for Tottenville (2-2).

Nazareth 56, Onteora 18: Samson Usilo had 18 points and Mike Megafu had 16 points for Nazareth (1-1) at the Shane Geisler Memorial Tournament in upstate Saugerties. The Kingsmen play the host team Saturday.

Collegiate 64, Dwight 22: Connor Huff posted 17 points and 12 rebounds, Ryan Frankel added 16 points and five assists and Willie Gwathmey had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Collegiate (1-0).

Fieldston 64, Manhattan Center 58: Will Savage scored 18 points and Michael Bregman followed with 12 for Fieldston (1-0) in the Fieldston Tip-Off Classic. The Eagles will meet Rye Country Day School, which topped Thurgood Marshall Academy, in the tournament final on Saturday.

Dalton 59, Trevor Day 45: Parker Lalonde scored 15 points for Dalton in the Dalton Invitational.

Columbia Prep 79, Browning 43: Don Peebles scored 21 points, Brian Lissak added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists and Tonio Vasilaros had 15 points and 20 rebounds for Columbia Prep (2-0) in the championship game of the Columbia Prep Tip-Off Classic.

Kellenberg (L.I.) 65, St. Francis Prep 57: Darren Cordero had 24 points and Gabe Gonzales had 10 points for SFP (1-1). Jeremy Arthur had 27 points and Rob Gomiela had 10 points for Kellenberg (1-0).

St. Edmund Prep 72, Scholars Academy 23: Justin Manon had 16 points to lead St. Edmund (1-1).
